Today is my half birthday. What’s that you may ask? Well it’s exactly six months since my last birthday and six months til my next one. So happy 33 and 1/2 to me!
The concept of a half birthday may be weird to some, and I can understand why you’d scoff, but I come with the belief that every day is special, so why not celebrate the small stuff too. It all started a couple of years ago when my sis and I were in Italy and I’d booked a bike tour through the Chianti wine region and told her it was her half birthday treat, as it so happened to have fallen on that day. Since then we have celebrated our half birthdays with our tongues firmly planted in our cheeks, but also as a cute way to treat ourselves. Gifts are never big, or lavish and more often than not are hand made.
I’m also happy to note that we’re not the only ones who do this, as I’ve found plenty of cake ideas of the ‘net. I was going to attempt to make one, but I have a 3 year old’s birthday party tomorrow, and I dare say there’ll be plenty of cake there!
And for some reason every time I say “half birthday” it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland and the “Unbirthday Song” they sing at the Madhatter’s Tea Party. Here it is, because why not? It’s your unbirthday today too!
