The Melbourne Cup Carnival kicked off in true style on Saturday with traditional monochromatic (that’s Black & White for all those folks that don’t know) Derby Day! It was a fab day out at Flemington with the scorching (and yes I might have got a little burnt – ouch!) sun out early in the morning. The gals and I headed down with our picnic rugs and baskets brimming for a day filled with champagne, frocks and, of course, horses.
I had two highlights from the day; one was getting to see finals of the Fashions of the Field competition, with the winner Ashleigh Albanese taking out the event in an outfit she made the day before! My favourite outfit though was this one (above). I absolutely adored the boater hat she wore and the outfit was very Gatsby-esque.
The other fun thing was popping into the Yellowglen marquee for a spot of more champagne and a great view of the track.
And the best thing was I didn’t lose all my money or my dignity as I didn’t get roaring drunk – a win for all I must say!Did you make it down to Derby, or are you heading out to one of the other days during the carnival? I’d love to see your pics.
