Pink Lips Sink Ships

After my recent make-up haul in the US I may have to change the name of my blog to A Pink Lip And A Nude Shoe, what do you think? When I got back from my trip I really didn’t know what I had bought as it was like being in a make-up buying tornado – a “makeupnado” if you will. Aside from a couple of reds that I bought it seems my leanings were toward the rosy side HAHA! Here are 5 (there were more!) that I’d thought I’d share with you…

maybelline colour elixirMaybelline Colour Elixir in Fuchsia Flourish

While watching TV in one of our hotel rooms in the US an ad came on for the new Maybelline Colour Elixir lip gloss and I FELL IN LOVE! I shouted to Tez that I had to get one while we were next shopping for make-up. Thankfully this baby didn’t disappoint. It’s so thick, glossy and creamy, without being gooey and sticky like most glosses, and the colour pay off is gorgeous. My only complaint is that I didn’t grab one in EVERY COLOUR! Once my spending ban is up I want to grab Mandarin Rapture and Vision in Violet (so much for saving money!)

rosie nyx

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa

This NYX lip cream SCREAMED out to me while I was in Ulta. I was so upset that there was only a sample left that I just stood in the aisle gob-smacked until a helpful salesgirl found the last tube available and I was ecstatic! Alas, I shouldn’t have been that excited. In the tube it’s very pigmented and looks fuchsia so I couldn’t wait to try it on. As you can see it doesn’t really translate all that colourfully on my lips. It’s a matte lip cream which I should’ve known would be very dry. I honestly like the colour but I think it looks quite dull on me. I may have to combat that with a trusty clear lip gloss on top!

rosie maybelline

Maybelline Color Whisper in Cherry on Top

I love, love, love this lipstick. I find it’s more like a balm as it glides right on and feels very hydrating. Also the colour is quite sheer (almost a whisper – get it?!) and it takes a couple of swipes to build it up, but I forgive this as it’s so comfortable to wear. This is a great lipstick for day-wear if you’re not into bright lips at the office.

rosie sephora

Sephora lipstick No. 12

After getting my make-up done at Sephora in Las Vegas I stumbled upon the Sephora brand lipsticks and loved them. I obviously thought I hadn’t bought enough pink by this stage! This is a really dark, fuchsia pink – to give you an indicator my sis thought I was wearing red while we were inside. This lippy also glides on really easily but I feel like I need to swipe it a couple of times to build up the colour. Unlike the other four lippies this has incredible wear and lasts for about 4-5 hours (even with eating and drinking) without needing to reapply.

rosie stila

Stila Lip & Cheek Stain in Pomegranate Crush

I’d read about Stila’s lip and cheek stain on several blogs and wanted to get a piece of the action. Technically, Pomegranate Crush isn’t a true pink, it errs more on the purple side, but I wanted to give you my take on the stain. I was super excited to use this as the applicator looks like so much fun – it’s a brush tip and a simple twist at the base of the pen releases all the colour fun. As it is a stain the colour pay off isn’t all that great – as you can see in the pic above. It really is just a hint of colour, which is a shame as I really like the shade. Also the formula is very drying once it’s been applied – boo! Again, I think I’ll use this with a gloss on top to give it a boost. For these reasons I haven’t used it as a cheek stain as I didn’t want it to be super dry on my cheeks especially if the colour pay-off isn’t there.

pink lips2Have you used any of these lippies? I’d love to get your take on them – especially the Stila lip stain.

  1. Sephora lipsticks (and their matt gloss thing) are always some of my first purchases when I’m in the northern hemisphere. But coming soon to Sydney 🙂

  2. I love the Maybelline one, it really suits your skin tone! I clicked on the link to the other colours and was stoked to see it was Priceline in Australia I am certainly going there as soon as possible. Hopefully before the weekend, I have a wedding and I have been looking for a decent new lipstick that will match the dress I am wearing for weeks 🙂 So many of the hues look lovely, but I am particularly interested in Fuchsia Flourish, Rose Redefined, Caramel Infused and Blush Essence, how will I ever decide???!!!

Now it's your turn...let me know what you think. I love reading your comments! :)
