The race that stops a nation! That’s how the Melbourne Cup is billed and that’s what happens every first Tuesday in November at 3pm – we all stop to watch those majestic beasts race 3,200 metres (2 miles) AND we get a public holiday for it! But enough about the horses – it’s all about the fashion and fabulousness.
Our day started off at Flinders Street Station where we all met and got our pics taken at the Bella Box pop up photo booth – how glamorous do we all look?! We then all scored a Bella Box race day survival kit which is an awesome idea and marketing ploy from the beauty subscription service. Inside the little pack was an assortment of essentials; deodorant, nail polish, face wipes and band aids. Everything you need to get through the day unscathed.
Then it was off to the track where we joined more than 100,000 people to sip champers and generally look fabulous.
My OOTD for Melbourne Cup was inspired by my childhood nickname of Bee – don’t ask me why my brother started calling me that but alas it stuck. My gorgeous little lemon cocktail dress was from Francesca’s that I picked up from my recent trip to the US. I hadn’t even cut the tag off yet so I know it was a bargain at under $70! I then asked the lovely Erin of Brock&Eddie to make me a fascinator based on a bee; a yellow base with black netting and I scored some cheap bee accessories off eBay. I think the end results were just beautiful.
I finished off the look with some new heels from Target, that were again a steal at $40, an old Sportgirl clutch, a smattering of gold and black accessories and a last minute addition of a skinny black belt and voilà I’ve transformed into a bee, ready to buzz around the social scene.
Before I go and refuel again for Oaks Day tomorrow I wanted to wish my gorgeous gal pal Tez a happy birthday! She’s been a life long friend and we’ve been through some fun shit together – have a great day Tezi!!
Did you make it out to the Cup? Did you back a winner?

Some fun hats and dresses. Love the yellow dress. The mani looks great in those heels!
Thanks so much! I’m all over matching my nails to the outfit too haha! xo
I think this is my #1, all time favorite outfit so far! Yellow is fabulous on you, my little Honey Bee! And that fascinator is sublime! I’ve been to the track in Sydney on Boxing Day. Very exciting indeed! We need to do the Kentucky Derby here in the US on one of your visits!!! All of you gals look gorg!
I would LOVE to go to the Kentucky Derby!! When is it on?
It’s generally around our Memorial Day – May/June. I’ve never been!!!
That’d be so cool to go to. Maybe I should plan a trip around all the horse racing meets around the world! LOL!
