With that unmistakable pout, the too-long fringe and schoolgirl uniforms she wore on stage, Chrissy Amphlett was the epitome of fierce and just oozed attitude as the lead singer of Divinyls. Her powerful vocals and stage presence helped pave the way for strong and outspoken women the world over.
After a string of hits in Australia in the 80s, Divinyls finally broke into the overseas market with their early 90s hit “I Touch Myself” – which allowed a generation of women to get in touch with themselves, literally! After suffering a long battle with breast cancer, while also having multiple sclerosis, Chrissy died in 2013. In 2014 the Cancer Council launched a breast cancer awareness project called “I Touch Myself” honouring Chrissy and encouraging women to get to know their breasts better and “touch themselves”.
Chrissy’s input into the entertainment industry was rewarded with a Melbourne laneway named in her honour; Amphlett Lane, which features a mural as well as a memorial plaque.
This Sunday I’m popping on my fishnet stockings and toasting Chrissy, a fabulously sassy woman who also knew how to rock!

A Red Lip And A Nude Shoe 
Many more women need to hear Chrissy’s story. The many layers of a amazingly diverse and talented woman. I read her book and could not put it down. From Spanish jails at 16 to being kicked in the shins every night on stage during the boy from Oz. climbing mountains and sleeping in a strang summit to find her inner self and try cure MS. There is so much more to Chrissy than a rocker in front of a band. So much more the the stigma of drugs and booze. This dynamic lady has been to hell and back.. There is only one place she is in now. Charlie Drayton is a blessed soul for knowing this soul of life.
