Sunday Sessions; The Soundtrack to My Life – Diesel

During this past week my favourite oldies radio station here in Melbourne kept advertising the fact that they were throwing an end of year party and one of my most adored Aussie singers would be special guest. Back in October I told you all about my beloved Aussie artists with one huge exception – Diesel. I knew he’d feature later on in the series and I didn’t quite know why I wanted to separate him out but it seems like it was for a very good reason.

I mean, what are the chances that I could see my next Sunday Sessions entrant before writing up the post and score a photo with him?…

By now you all know I have an eclectic taste in music and it wasn’t strange that I was fan-girling so hard over the likes of New Kids On The Block, Def Leppard AND Diesel all at the same time. It probably helped that I was extremely boy-crazy and that all these artists were smoking hot, especially Diesel with that floppy hair and those smouldering eyes, but shhhhhhhh, that’s beside the point!

There was something that really struck me with his debut solo album, Hepfidelity. The heavy mix of soul, blues and rock n’ roll was a little too sophisticated for my pre-teen musical palate but it really resonated. It was a new sound for me, having grown up on a healthy diet of 80s synth pop and heavy metal, and I absolutely love it.

That’s one sexy bald headed man!

Over time I’d forgotten about my love for Diesel until years later in Japan when my fellow Aussie cast mate reminded me of how great he is. Whilst learning to play guitar he would play Hepfidelity in our green room and it was like finding an old friend. This song in particular was played on high rotation and it is still one of my favourites. Happy Sunday dollface and enjoy this sexy song…

  1. As soon as I saw Diesel (or Johnny Diesel as he still is to me) I started singing Tip Of My Tongue inside my head. I always remember when he came out everyone would be like “You know he’s Jimmy Barnes’ brother in law?” Also love Crying Shame and Soul Revival!

Now it's your turn...let me know what you think. I love reading your comments! :)
