Harrrrr me hearties!! What do you get when you mix one of the world’s oldest rums and a bloody old ship on a Friday night? No, not the filming of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. You get a Rum Pop-Up Bar at Polly Woodside, that’s what! (and believe me I was looking for Johnny Depp all night just in case).

popup bar3The gals and I ventured down to Polly Woodside, a ship built in 1885 in Belfast, which operated as a cargo vessel before being painstakingly restored and preserved in the 60s and is now docked and a fabulous feature in Melbourne’s South Wharf.

Everyone enjoyed the three yummy rum cocktails on offer; Dark N Stormy, Hot Lips and Yacht Club Punch, all made with Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum. Now I’m not usually a rum drinker, but these were delish. While sipping thirstily on our uber hipster-chic mason jars we were serenaded by a swinging jazz duo and got to explore the old ship and its museum.

The National Trust really put on a great night opening up Polly Woodside and adding a fun twist – a twist of lime that is! Get it? That’s a little cocktail humour there dollface!

More pop-up bars are on the horizon for 2015 at Polly Woodside and Old Melbourne Gaol. If you’re keen check out the National Trust Facebook page for more details.
