Fierce Females: Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball

The iconic red head!

Growing up there was always lots of laughter at home. My family absolutely adored comedies and still do. We’d all huddle together and watch classic movie and TV comedies featuring the likes of Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis and of course the iconic red-head herself; Lucille Ball (told you there’d be more gingers featured in the series!)

Lucille was a definite ground-breaker of her time. Can you believe when she appeared pregnant on air in 1951 in I Love Lucy they couldn’t actually say the word “pregnant” and had to use “expecting” instead?! Sheeeesh we’ve come a long way since then!

What I loved most about her when I was a kid (and still do) was her hilarious rubbery facial expressions – she’d have me in stitches! One scene in particular that sticks was when she had to eat a pickle on Here’s Lucy…I still giggle through this scene. She has an absolute fabulous sense of comic timing that is just brilliant to watch.

This Sunday I raise my dill pickle and toast Lucille Ball, a true comedic icon and one fabulously funny fierce female. lucille ball grapes

  1. I also grew up with Lucy and Abbott and Costello! And to sound about a thousand years old, they don’t make ’em like that anymore!

    We love Lucy!!!

  2. Oh I love her! When i was in New York there was a poster in one of the old rain carriages (in the transport museum) where she looked so much like me. Actually I looked so much like her, she got there first. I have a photo of it 🙂

    • That’s lovely Suzanne xo
There’s going to be a marathon coming soon on our cable that I can’t wait for. Looking forward to a weekend in and indulging in Lucy 🙂
