If you asked me two years ago what the Pantone Color of the Year was I’d have responded with “what you talkin’ bout Willis?!” I had no idea that there was a predetermined colour that was bestowed upon us mere mortals each year by the powers that be, but thanks to the blogosphere and fashionistas everywhere I’ve been privy to this phenomena. Basically the good people at Pantone think that colour “has always been an integral part of how a culture expresses the attitudes and emotions of the times.” I totally agree and think that ethos totally embodies my theory of living a colour-poptastic life!
This year they’ve decided that the colour is marsala. Why marsala? Well…
Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.
I stole this dress from mum’s wardrobe a while ago and have had it hanging in mine for the longest time without me even trying it on. As soon as I started reading bloggers mention marsala being the colour du jour then I knew I had to dust it off and take it for a whirl.
This 80s era dress errs more on the maroon side (which to me looks like marsala without a fancy name) and I wouldn’t usually wear it as it reminds me of the school uniform I wore for 13 years! But if I can wear a flower crown with an outfit I’m willing to wear any colour! Plus it has pleats!! I love pleats.
I kept my OOTD fairly simple and let the dress speak for itself, teaming it with my Lovisa flower crown (which I’m always itching to have an excuse to wear) and my navy Kmart heels – vintage marsala madness!
Did you know there was a “colour of the year”? What colour would you pick if you were in charge? Mine would be a tie between neon pink and teal 🙂

OMG OMG!!! I literally almost cried at how beautiful these pics are! Why are you so flawless? Darling I love this outfit, mama’s dress is such a stunning marsala colour and the fit is just perfection. I love pleats too- so feminine. Your figure gives ne special feelings girl. And the flower crown? I just CAN’T. I love you. ♥
You’re the sweetest! Like I mentioned I’m feeling very puffy at the mo thanks to good old hormones!! 😁😊😂
I had no idea there was a color of the year! Such an unusual concept, since I feel like each season really has its own color. I’m still loving mint for spring, but lately I’ve been in love with black, pastel pink, and pale gray (all together!).
Ooooh I’m digging that combo!! Pastel pink is always a good idea am I may just have to see if I can work that into an OOTD 😊
I heard this earlier in the year. The Today show said it’s for men too and had ties in Marsala! lol. The pics are flawless and it appears as a lovely red shade but paired with the floral crown and blue shoes and it takes on a whole other beauty!!! You rock Marsala but do hope it’s teal or neon pink next year too 🙂

Oh yeah. The colour extends to everything’s from fashion to interior design. That’d suck to have to change your decor every year hahaha!
Thanks so much! I love colour blocking unusual combos

Thanks so much Kitty! I hadn’t thought of Lana, but now I can see it 🙂 xo
Oh, I love that dress! I was “eh” when I heard the color was marsala (especially after emerald and orchid the last two years) but it is growing on me 🙂
I know, Emerald is one of my fave colours and compared to Marsala it is meh LOL! But after scouring Pinterest it’s definitely grown on me 🙂

That dress. Omg. Perfection. I love the colour of the year thing, but I have issues with Pantone colours because hubby’s a painter and, well, long story. But you’re rocking the ootd!
Thanks so much Ana 🙂
The idea of the Colour of the Year still freaks me out a little – who would have thought there was such a thing!
Oh I love that dress.
I think the only reason I know about the Pantone colour is because it is wine coloured 🙂
Exactly! That’s first thing I said – “that’s a wine!” LOL 🙂
Thanks Nicole
