Timehop Abe Goes Old Skool

Have you all heard of the app Timehop? I know you have, I’m always late to the party when it comes to technology and what’s cool. Well, if you haven’t, it’s an app that turns back tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiioooome (sorry I was possessed by Cher there for a second) and you become like Marty McFly and go back in time and visit a time capsule of that day in your history over social media. Timehop Abe (that’s the cute little dinosaur) is your guide through your digital past, and with the help of your linked Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. feed, he reminds you of what you were doing on that day a year ago, 2 years, 5 years…depending on whether you posted and how long you’ve been on that platform.

Well! That got me truly thinking. I’ve been keeping a diary since 1998, when I started university. Back before Facebook and all the other fun stuff, back to a time when people still took pen to paper! It’s not so much a journal, as I don’t talk about feelings or emotions or any of that crap, I usually just jot down appointments, where I went for lunch, what shifts I did at work (as I was working casually or part time), dinner plans, movies etc. you get the drift. Well I thought wouldn’t it be great to dig up all these old diaries and see what was happening on this day (January 12th) for the last 17 years! TALK ABOUT A TRIP BACK IN TIME!

I knew there’d be blank dates (I know I’m fabulous, but even this little girl as quiet days) but I thought I’d note them down here, and show you a day (remember, January 12th) in the life of Rosie Rockets…and I truly was Rockets by this stage as that nickname has been with me ever since 1998.* Feel free to skip this if you’re bored…we’ll meet again at my next post. But for those interested, let’s journey back in time……

old diaries2

I loved doing this and it reminded me of why I started (and still continue) to keep a diary in the first place. Flipping through the pages and having lots of memories come flooding back. It’s great to be able to see where you were in life – good or bad, and it’s a fabulous reminder of how far you’ve come.

Do you keep a diary? How long have you been at it?

*A little Rosie tidbit to add to your collection

  1. I love that you still have them! I have one diary from when I was a teenager and after that I never managed to keep one for very long, lots of blank space! I like the sound of the Timehop app but I tend to delete a lot of stuff so I don’t think there would be much to choose from. Great post. X.

    • Thanks Ana,
I’m a bit of a hoarder when it comes to all that stuff. I have a “memory” box of things from school and working o/s – I’m a dag that way I guess LOL! I have scrapbooks and journals from travels, thinking about incorporating them into a blog post. Thankful I’ve kept them now 🙂 xo

  2. I do keep a diary although I don’t update it as religiously as I did when I was, say, in high school or college. Lots of things to keep me busy now. Lol.

    • Oh I hear you Anna, while flipping through some of them there were patches of blank entries. I see it as a good thing, we’re having way too much fun to keep it updated LOL! xo

  3. OMG I love this idea!! How awesome that you’ve kept all your journals! I kept long, dramatic angsty journals throughout childhood, but with so many years of moving, I have no idea where they are. I’m guessing that for the last 10 years, on this exact date, I would have written “Dammit I wish my hair was more…” (insert various adjectives)

  4. I have tons from my childhood/teenage years, especially when we lived in Taiwan. I drew a lot of “examples” of how complicated my life was. So OCD, I have them organized by volume; dates (from when to when) in the volume, chapters, sub chapters, and an index at the end. And I have 5 “volumes” covering my years there. Once we moved here, they became more “generic” in that I didn’t go into dramatic detail/illustrations of my life because I had a lot more I didn’t want randomly read. I am planning on starting a travel journal like you to put bits and bobs in. I like that idea.

Now it's your turn...let me know what you think. I love reading your comments! :)
